Protest Rocks Abuja

In a remarkable display of unity, the Women for Peace, Security, and Social Inclusion Initiative (WPSSI) has appealed to youths to ignore the call for a nationwide protest scheduled for August 1 due to its potential negative consequences.

Gathering in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, this weekend, the WPSSI announced their decision to suspend the planned protest at a massive meeting held at Eagle Square. The event aimed to counter the planned protest set for August 1 to August 10, 2024.

The Chairperson of WPSSI, Mrs. Tinu Alade-Abiola, noted that the primary goal of the event was to address and prevent the nationwide protest.

The gathering featured a series of discussions and interactive sessions aimed at exploring the root causes of the planned protest and finding effective, peaceful solutions.

Abiola expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and his administration, urging patience and understanding as they address the country’s challenges.

“Peace is not merely the absence of violence but the presence of harmony, understanding, and respect among all individuals and communities. It is the foundation upon which we can build a prosperous and secure future for ourselves and our children,” said Abiola.

“As a grandmother, I have witnessed firsthand how conflicts and violence can tear apart the fabric of our society. Women and children, the most vulnerable among us, bear the heaviest burdens during times of unrest and violent protests. Women suffer the consequences of disrupted livelihoods, loss of loved ones, and trauma that scars for generations.

“During such challenging times, dialogue becomes our most powerful tool. It is through dialogue that grievances can be aired, misunderstandings can be resolved, and solutions can be found that benefit all parties involved.

“I urge each and every one of you, women of this great nation, Nigeria, to embrace dialogue as a means of addressing grievances and seeking peaceful resolutions to conflicts.

“Let us come together as brothers and sisters, neighbors and friends, to listen to each other with open hearts and minds. Violent protests and demonstrations only lead to further division and destruction.”

She emphasized the importance of unity and commitment to justice, fairness, and respect for diversity.

Abiola called on every Nigerian to reflect on the significance of peace, dialogue, and national unity, rejecting violence and embracing constructive engagement as the path forward.
