Customs Hands Over Indian Hemp, Expired Milk, Others To NDLEA, NAFDAC

The Federal Operation Units (FOU) Zone ‘B’ Kaduna has handed over 90 parcels of seized Indian Hemp and 135 sacks of expired milk powder and 31 cartons of unregistered pharmaceutical products to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) respectively for further investigation.

The comptroller FOU Zone ‘B’ Kaduna Comptroller Albashir Hamisu who performed the handing over also disclosed that Duty Paid Value (DPV) of seizures made between the months of July and August 2022 st goods worth N229,550,108.07.

Prominent among the seizures made by the Unit is 724 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 149 kegs of 25 litres of PMS and AGO, 227 cartons of foreign spaghetti and couscous, 191 sacks of foreign secondhand clothing and 16 units of used vehicles.

The comptroller revealed that a total of 117 seizures were made within the Zone between 30 June to 24 August 2022 of suspected contraband items which also included 50 kegs of 25 litres size foreign vegetable oil, 30 bags of foreign fertilizer, 25 sacks of foreign shoes, 33 cartons of foreign milky creamer and 7 sacks of foreign tiger nuts.

Addressing newsmen  the comptroller attributed his unit’s successes to information volunteered by patriotic Nigerians, inter-agency synergy and effective performance management.

In their separate responses the Representative of Commander NDLEA ACN Ali Ado Kubau and State Coordinator NAFDAC Mr Nasir Mato in their submissions after taking over the illicit items respectively, appreciated the inter-agency synergy that exist between Nigeria Customs and other agencies and both assured to carry out further investigation on the illicit items.
