Three years after the immediate past minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Hadi Sirika, demolished the head office of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB), the bureau has reopened another office in Lagos.

Speaking during the reopening of the office in Lagos, the director general of NSIB, Capt. Alex Badeh Jr., said that the demolition of the building, by the former administration, severely impacted its operational capacity in Lagos.

Badeh explained that this also hindered its ability to serve the transportation sector effectively, while its dedicated team members were left without the means to carry out their vital work, resulting in a struggle for productivity and a gap in the service delivery.

He said: “This occasion is especially momentous after a challenging three-year period during which our operational capacity in Lagos was severely impacted.

“The unfortunate demolition of our previous office under the past administration left us without a physical presence in this critical location, hindering our ability to serve the transportation sector effectively.

“The reopening of this Lagos office symbolises our resilience and steadfast commitment to transportation safety. It is a stepping stone towards a more secure and efficient transportation network for all Nigerians. I call upon stakeholders, our government and private sector partners, and indeed all Nigerians, to join us in this noble pursuit.”

Speaking, the minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, in his remarks, expressed regret over the demolition of the former office of the agency in Lagos.

Keyamo expressed that Lagos was too important not to have an office in Lagos.

He said: “I was sad when I came to office to discover that the functional office of NSIB was demolished without reason. Lagos is critical to our aviation industry and it’s bad for NSIB not to have an office in Lagos.”
