Fistula Obstetrics: Kwara Flags Off Free Surgical Operations For Women

The Kwara State government has launched a special health intervention to provide free obstetric fistula repair surgery for women suffering from the condition in the state.

The intervention commenced on Tuesday at Aisha Buhari Mother and Child Hospital, Eyenkorin, in Asa local government area of the state.

At the event, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Amina El-Imam reiterated the commitment of the state government to eradicating obstetric fistula among women in the state.

El-lmam also urged the beneficiaries of the surgery to strictly adhere to the healthcare consultants’ instructions to aid optimal recovery.

In her remarks, a member of the State House of Assembly, Hon. Rukayat Shittu hailed the state government for the initiative, adding, “It will impact positively on the wellbeing of the less privileged.”

A beneficiary who did not want to be named, thanked the state government for providing succour to her and other beneficiaries.
