Kaduna State governor Uba Sani has launched a programme to distribute 500 fertiliser trucks to farmers across the state to boost food production.
During the flag-off of fertiliser distribution in Kaduna, Governor Sani said 240,000 bags will be distributed to 120,000 smallholder farmers for free.
He noted that the event marks a significant milestone in his administration’s journey towards revitalising the agricultural sector and ensuring food security.
The governor said Kaduna State is a significant player in Nigeria’s agricultural landscape, ranking first in the production of ginger, contributing 76.4% to the national output.
He added that Kaduna also led in maize production, contributing 7.4% of the national yield, and ranked second in soybeans production, contributing 9.4%.
The governor however said to support all year-round farming, his administration procured solar-powered irrigation pumps for smallholder farmers, ensuring consistent agricultural productivity even during the dry season.
