Kano State commissioner of police, Salman Dogo, has expressed worry over the increase in cases of culpable homicide in the state and urged for restraints among residents.
The commissioner, in a statement issued by the spokesperson of the command, Abdullahi Kiyawa noted that the alarming trend is as a result of fighting, stabbing with knives, drowning in water, and flood-related deaths which have led to the loss of precious lives, leaving families and communities devastated.
“The command is deeply concerned about this trend and urges the public to exercise extreme caution and restraints in their daily interactions to prevent such occurrences.
“In this regard, we appeal to parents and guardians to counsel their children and wards on the dangers of engaging in violent behaviours and the consequences of such actions.
“Refrain from carrying dangerous weapons, especially knives, broken bottles, irons and clubs.
“Avoid travelling or moving around during heavy rainfall and flooding.”
While urging the public to shun any form of physical altercations and argument that could lead to escalation of violence, the CP said the command is working tirelessly to address the issue and ensure public safety, noting that any suspicious incident should be reported to the nearest police station.
