The 8th edition of Okapi Children Cancer Foundation (OkapiCCF) Annual Childhood Cancer Awareness Walk will hold in Abuja on Saturday, September 28, 2024, with the aim of inspiring young cancer warriors.

This year’s event, which will kick off at Jabi Lake Mall, has the theme, “Bridge of Hope for Children Fighting Cancer,” reflecting the Foundation’s unwavering commitment to supporting young cancer patients and their families.

According to a statement signed by the Chief Volunteer, OkapiCCF, Kemi Adekanye, sent to LEADERSHIP, it symbolises the Foundation’s “holistic approach to care, encompassing not only medical treatment but also emotional, social, and financial support. Our aim is to ensure that every child has access to the resources they need for a hopeful and healthy future.”

OkapiCCF noted that childhood cancer is a profound challenge that affects families, friends, and communities, adding that every step taken during this walk represents its shared resolve to stand beside the brave young fighters, honouring their courage and resilience as they navigate the difficult journey of cancer treatment.

Highlights of the event include; free breast cancer screening and other health checks, inspiring survivor stories, entertainment and fun activities for families, and educational opportunities about childhood cancer.

“OkapiCCF warmly invites everyone in the FCT—families, individuals, schools, local businesses, and organizations—to join us in making a meaningful impact on the lives of these young cancer warriors. For those unable to attend in person, we encourage participation in the walk virtually.

“We believe that together, we can bring hope and healing to children and families affected by cancer. This walk is more than just a physical journey; it is a powerful expression of unity and compassion,” Adekanye stated.
