Osobase was allegedly caught by his wife, Mrs Ehis Osobase, on the 4th of January, 2015 with his alleged partner, Mr Osele Sunday, engaged in erotic activities, including kissing themselves and fondling their genitals, an act forbidden in Uromi land and criminalized in Nigeria.

According to Nigeria’s Same Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act 2013, a marriage contract, civil union or public display of affection between persons of same sex is prohibited. The law also provides penalties for the solemnization, witnessing without disclosure and association with such relationship.

Mrs Osobase, on sighting her husband, raised the alarm that attracted the community, after which Victor Osobase escaped from the scene in his car in high speed which led to a serious accident that crushed a commercial motorcyclist popularly called ‘Okada man’.

Thereafter, Mr Victor Osobase abandoned his car and fled into a nearby bush for fear of harassment and persecution. It was only Mr Osele Sunday, Victor’s alleged gay partner, that was held, physically assaulted and handed over to the police for further investigation.
