Opposition Lawmakers Coalition has leveled accusations against top leaders of the PDP, claiming they were undermining the party’s interests in Rivers State.

The coalition spoke under the umbrella of the Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP).

During a press conference in Abuja, the coalition’s spokesman, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere, a member of the House of Representatives, outlined what he described as a “calculated attempt” by PDP leaders to weaken the PDP from within.

The controversy centers around an ongoing legal battle involving 27 former PDP members of the Rivers State House of Assembly who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in December 2023.

According to Ugochinyere, the PDP leadership’s actions are directly opposing efforts by the party’s National Legal Adviser to protect PDP interests in court.

He claimed that the PDP leaders in question sent a letter to the Court of Appeal in Port Harcourt on August 15, 2024, dissociating themselves from the legal adviser’s move to withdraw an appeal that could potentially harm the party’s position.

The coalition argued that these actions are part of a broader scheme to destabilize the PDP in Rivers State and aid the political ambitions of the APC.

It alleged that this interference extends to several other legal cases in Abuja and Port Harcourt, all purportedly aimed at weakening the PDP’s stance.
