The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) chapter of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has congratulated former Super Eagles coach, Samson Siasia, for his return to football coaching following the completion of his five-year FIFA ban.

This was contained in a communique issued at the end of their congress held at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja during the weekend.

The association urged the double Olympics medals winning coach to bring his extensive coaching expertise to advance football development in Nigeria.

The association also commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the unprecedented allocation of 12 billion naira towards the execution of the 2024 Olympics and Paralympics in Paris, saying the historic investment reflects a strong commitment to the advancement of sports in Nigeria.

However, the Congress solidly aligns with the stance of National SWAN and expressed disappointment over Team Nigeria’s poor performance. It denounced the subsequent blame games and scapegoating in strong terms. FCT SWAN urges Sports Minister Senator John Owan Enoh to take responsibility for these outcomes and focus on finding solutions rather than engaging in blame-shifting. It also advised the minister to engage FCT SWAN directly rather than resorting to divisive tactics with third parties.

The FCT SWAN further calls on athletes and officials of the Paralympic Committee of Nigeria to pursue excellence with determination and make Nigeria proud through their performances at the upcoming Paralympics.
