The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has invited Joe Ajaero, the president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), to explain the allegations of criminal conspiracy, terrorism financing, subversion, and cybercrime it is currently investigating.

In a letter dated August 19, 2024, addressed to the president of NLC and signed by the assistant commissioner of police, ACP Adamu S. Mu’Azu, for the deputy commissioner of police, Intelligence Response Team (IRT), the police asked Ajaero to report to the IRT complex, old Abattoir by Guzape Junction, Abuja, at 10 a.m. on August 20, 2024, for an interview.

The police also warned they would not hesitate to activate a warrant of arrest against the NLC president if he fails to honour the invitation.

The IRT unit’s letter included: “This office is investigating a case of Criminal Conspiracy, Terrorism Financing, Treasonable Felony, Subversion, and Cybercrime in which you were mentioned.

“You are therefore invited to interview the undersigned on Tuesday 20th August 2024, by 10:00hrs prompt, at IRT Complex, Old Abattoir by Guzape Junction, Abuja, through the Team Leader with telephone no 08035179870 in connection with the above investigation.

“Be informed that in the event of failing to honour this letter, this office will have no alternative but to activate a warrant of arrest against you, please.”

Efforts to get the Force PRO, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, to speak on this proved abortive, as he has yet to respond to WhatsApp messages or calls.

It would be recalled that the NLC and the police have been having a running battle since the Nigeria Police invaded the NLC secretariat in Abuja, looking for sponsors of the #endbadgovernance protesters.
