A 21-year-old student of Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa, identified as Mojisola Awesu, has been reportedly killed by suspected ritualists in Ilorin, the state capital.

LEADERSHIP gathered that the corpse of the victim, who had been declared missing since August 9, 2024, was found at a refuse dump site in the Aleniboro area of Ilorin metropolis.

One Mr Olorunoje was said to have raised the alarm on discovering Mojisola ‘s corpse at the refuse dump site when he was returning from mosque to his house in the Aleniboro area on August 12, 2024, at about 7.30 am.

LEADERSHIP gathered that Mojisola had received a phone call from one Miss Timileyin on August 9, 2024, about an event organised by students of Summit University, Offa and Al-Hikmah University, Ilorin.

Timileyin was said to have introduced Mojisola to one Mr Adebayo Happiness, a student of Summit University, Offa, who allegedly invited her to the night party under the pretence of having her act as his girlfriend for a fee of N15,000.

It was gathered that Mojisola had informed her roommate, one Miss Blessing, that she felt uncomfortable in the hotel Adebayo Happiness lodged her and noted that there was no party at the said location, and shortly after this communication, her phone was switched off, and all subsequent efforts by Miss Blessing to reach her were unsuccessful.

The spokesperson of Kwara State Police Command, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, in a statement yesterday, confirmed the recovery of Mojisola’s corpse.

She said that suspects have been arrested in connection with the killing of Mojisola, adding that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further discreet investigation.

The police statement reads: ” The Kwara State Police Command wishes to inform the public about an ongoing investigation into a case of culpable homicide reported on August 12, 2024, at about 07.30 hours by Mr Olorunoje of Aleniboro area Ilorin, Kwara State.

“According to Mr Olorunoje, on August 11, 2024, at about 20:00 hours, he was returning home from the mosque when a group of labourers approached him and informed him of a disturbing discovery. They had found the body of an unidentified female, approximately 25 years old, dumped on a refuse dump near the Aleniboro area of Ilorin, Kwara State.

“Following this report, a team of detectives was immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, the scene was carefully examined and photographed. During the initial investigation, traces of blood were found near the left ear of the deceased. The body was subsequently taken to the General Hospital in Ilorin, where a medical examination confirmed that she was dead. The body has since been deposited in the hospital morgue. The deceased was later identified as Miss Awesu Mojisola.

“In a related development, on August 13, 2024, at about 16:30 hours, a report of a missing person was filed by Miss Blessing O, a resident of Gbomi’s area, Offa, Kwara State. Miss Blessing reported that her roommate, Miss Awesu Mojisola, a 21-year-old Kwara State College of Health Technology student, had been missing since August 9, 2024.

“According to the report, Miss Mojisola received a phone call on August 9 from one Miss Timileyin, who informed her about an event organised by Summit University and Al-Hikmah University students in Ilorin. Miss Timileyin introduced Mojisola to one Mr Adebayo Happiness, a student of Summit University, who allegedly invited her to the night party under the pretence of having her act as his girlfriend for a fee of N15,000.00.

“Upon her arrival in Ilorin, Miss Mojisola informed her roommate that she felt uncomfortable in the hotel where she was lodged by Adebayo Happiness and noted that there was no party at the said location. Shortly after this communication, her phone was switched off, and Miss Blessing’s subsequent efforts to reach her were unsuccessful.

“In the light of these developments, the Kwara State Police Command has arrested suspects in connection with the case. Investigation is ongoing, and the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further discreet investigation.

“The commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, assures the public that all necessary steps are being taken to uncover the truth behind this incident and bring those responsible to justice.
