On Wednesday, social Behavioural Change (SBC) facilitators in Nigeria met in Kano to brainstorm on transforming behavioural change towards immunisation, polio eradication, zero dose children, ending open defecation, out-of-school children, and exclusive breastfeeding, among others in Nigeria.

Speaking during a meeting organised by the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Nigeria’s UNICEF chief for SBC, Kshitij Joshi, explained that the network is meeting to discuss and Strategize on how they can accelerate the process and bring about transformation in a much faster way for a better Nigeria.

He said the network was established in 2012 and has played a vital role in eradicating the widely circulated poliovirus in the country. It is also engaged in other transformational attitudinal changes in relation to caregiving, early marriage, seeking health services, and early stimulation by participating, supporting, and advocating.

Speaking also at the event, Ali Nuhu, a UNICEF global champion who also serves as the managing director of Nigerian Film Corporation, emphasized the need for parents to take their children for routine immunisation to avoid complications.

While commending UNICEF for sensitising the public about the importance of immunisation, he said that as a partner, he skits and makes public service announcements on both traditional and social media to create more awareness.
