Sacked CBN Staff Seek Legal Redress

Some former employees of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) who were recently relieved of their jobs under the re-organisation of the bank are challenging their termination of service and seeking payment of their entitlements.

The lead counsel to some of the affected staff, Mr Ola Olanipekun (SAN) on Thursday after filling the cases before the National Industrial Court in Abuja in the originating summons, a copy made available to LEADERSHIP Weekend, said the claimants approached the court over their right to fair hearing.

He explained the action of the CBN had caused various damages. He said their demand is that the court should ensure that the bank pays them all their monthly salaries, allowances and other entitlements.

He cited one of his clients who still had nine years of service and would have earned over N1.6m monthly if his employment had not been unlawfully terminated, and such other monies in that regard as his current or subsequent position would be entitled to, and wants the court to ensure he is paid up till the date of judgment.

He is also seeking an order of the court to ensure that the bank pays all monthly salaries and allowances the claimant would have earned in the course of his service /employment, being N178.3m or such other sums in that regard, from the effective date of termination of his appointment and until his due date of lawful retirement on August 4, 2033.

The counsel maintained that the claimant is also praying the court to ensure that the sum of N100m as general damages against the defendant.

He explained that the originating summons dated August 22, 2024 is supported by a 27 paragraphs affidavit deposed to by the claimant.
