The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited has introduced self-service fuelling at selected retail stations, allowing motorists to pay for and dispense fuel without a station attendant.
Here is how it worksÂ
Step 1: Download the NNPC Retail Fuel App. Scan the QR code displayed at participating stations, or find the app through the relevant app store.
Step 2: Register and fund your wallet. Create an account and load the in-app digital wallet, which is used to pay for fuel.
Step 3: Locate a station offering the service. The option is currently limited to selected outlets. Stations offering it are marked with a green “Self-Serve” badge on the app.
Step 4: Enter the amount to spend. The app displays the corresponding fuel quantity and price. Confirm the details, then select “Pay from Wallet” to complete payment.
Step 5: Receive a digital receipt. After payment, the app generates a receipt containing an Order ID, an eight-digit self-service code, and a QR code.
Step 6: Enter the code at the pump. At the terminal, input the eight-digit code and press the hash key to validate it.
Step 7: Dispense the fuel. Once validated, lift the nozzle and fuel up. The pump releases the quantity paid for.
The service is currently available at a limited number of stations, beginning with one station in Abuja. NNPC has stated plans to extend it up to 70 stations nationwide within six months.
