The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has arrested a suspect identified as Bristol Isaac Tamunobiefiri, also known as PIDOMNigeria, over his alleged involvement in leaking sensitive documents.

The suspect was arrested on August 5, 2024, by the officials from the Nigeria Police Force National Cybercrime Centre (NPF-NCCC) in his hotel room in Rivers State.

He was apprehended on allegations of committing serious offences that undermined the integrity of government operations.

Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, listed the allegations against the suspect to include unlawful possession, leakages of classified documents, cyber related offences, among others.

ACP Adejobi further assured that the Police will diligently carry out thorough investigation into the cases against PIDOM, noting that the Force will leave no stone unturned to continually enforce the law and give Nigerians a more secure nation.

LEADERSHIP recalls that concerns were growing across social media platforms earlier about the disappearance of an anonymous whistleblower, PIDOM Nigeria, who had been reported missing by a fellow investigative journalist, David Hundeyin.

Hundeyin had suspected foul play and shared his concerns on PIDOM’s X.com account (formerly Twitter), alleging that PIDOM’s disappearance was connected to authorities.

Also, pro-democracy activist, Omoyele Sowore, had also spoken out, calling for PIDOM’s immediate release.

In a post on X.com on Friday, Sowore wrote, “I woke up to the heart-wrenching report of the abduction and secret detention of whistleblower and undercover journalist #PIDOMNIGERIA by forces related to the #officialABAT; going by the modus operandi of the regime, #PIDOMNIGERIA could be harmed if everything is not done to secure his release immediately.

“I, therefore, request the #officialABAT regime Gestapo unit holding #PIDOMNIGERIA to release him or her immediately. The same applies to all #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters illegally or extralegally detained across Nigeria.”
