Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has solicited the partnership of the Real Estate Developers Association of Nigeria (REDAN) to upgrade and resuscitate existing housing estates in the state.

Otti made the appeal while declaring open a two-day summit of the state branch of the association in Umuahia, the state capital, saying his administration has provided business-driving incentives in the state.

The summit themed, “Building a Sustainable Future Through Real Estate Development” was organised by the branch in collaboration with the state’s Ministry of Land and Housing.

Represented by the commissioner of Land and Housing, Chaka Chukwumerije, the governor said the incentives include limiting of the processing period for Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) to within 30 days and infrastructure development, among others.

The governor, who expressed gratitude to the association for its plans to provide 2,000 housing units in the state, assured that the government would provide the necessary infrastructure facilities for the project.

Addressing the summit, the national president of the association, Akintoye Adeoye urged the members to continue to enhance its reputation and transparency in their dealings to sustain the confidence reposed in them.

“Our target is to take the lead in transforming the country’s real estate landscape, foster sustainable growth, productivity and improve the lives of the people,” he noted.
Adeoye, who reiterated the association’s readiness to provision affordable housing across the country, appreciated Gov Otti for the positive developments taking place in the state under his leadership.

In his address, the South East vice president of the association, Emeka Nwachukwu, announced their intention to provide 10,000 housing units in the zone and appealed to the state governments in the region for their support.

Chairman of the branch, Kalu Ndukwe, reiterated the commitment of the association to providing quality and affordable housing estates across the state.

He assured of their preparedness to partner with the state government to achieve its housing estate agenda and emphasized the need for ethical conducts by the members.

Ndukwe extolled the governor for reducing the period of processing C-of-O and creating a conducive business environment, assuring him of their contributions to the development of the state.

Earlier, the summit committee chairman, Onyeani Nwosu, said the association desires to work with the government to create policies that would support sustainable real estate development in the state.
