The Federal Government, through the National Economic Council (NEC), has concluded arrangements to provide three billion naira in support to states affected by floods.

The Affected states include Kebbi,  Sokoto,  Zamfara,  Jigawa,  Katsina,  Niger,  Gombe and Kano, among others.

Minister of Finance Wale Edun started this Weekend at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi alongside Governor Nasir Idris and Minister of Budget and Economic Planning Abubakar Atiku Bagudu shortly after they inspected Argungu, Dukku, Wacot Rice Mills, and other places affected by floods in the state.

Edun told Journalists that the National Economic Council (NEC) has approved a sum of N3bn for Kebbi and other states affected by floods this year, including the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

He said, “The federal executive council has approved the sum of N3bn as support to farmers who lost crops to the ravaging flood in the country.”

The Minister added that the National Economy Council has been proactive in supporting the states of the federation and FCT with N3b so that they can take action on flooding cases.

The Minister added that President Tinubu is ready to help expand the rice mills and other mini-rice mills in Kebbi to boost food production, reduce food inflation, and create more jobs for Nigerians.

Also speaking, Governor Nasir Idris appealed to President Tinubu to help Kebbi rice farmers who were adversely affected by heavy flooding that washed away their crops so that victims whose farms were devastated by floods could at least mitigate their losses.

According to Idris, Kebbi alone can feed the nation, as his administration has supported farmers with free fertilisers, seedlings, and pumping machines to fast-track farming activities in the state.

He emphasised that as soon as the wet season runs out, the state is ready to engage in massive dry season farming with the same support and encouragement to farmers.

Also, Minister of Budget and Economy Planning Abubakar Atiku Bagudu commended President Tinubu for his leadership in reforming the economy and stabilising the nation’s economy.

He said the road projects from Sokoto to Badagary in Lagos would greatly help farmers with irrigation and food security.
