Students of Adamawa State Polytechnic have barricaded the entrance to the institution’s main campus in protest over a lack of water and power.

The students were seen throwing stones at security personnel as tear gas was fired at them.
Sources from the institution said the 21 boreholes on main campus, had been without running water as student had to trek distance to get water for cocking.

The situation was compounded by ageing infrastructure like water reservoirs, broken pipelines leaking water.

The angry students prevented lecturers and other staff from gaining entrance into the campus as at 7:00 am.

One of the students, Mr Lauje Kuturu, said the management has been ineffective in making efforts to address the situation.

“We have been without water and power for one week now and had no option”.

The Polytechnic’s Information Officer, Mr Albert Matila, confirmed the incident, saying officials from the Yola Electricity Distribution Company (YEDC) have restored the light.

Matilda said management is currently holding a meeting over the matter, and it would be made public.

He equally confirmed that the school is still in session as there is no causality or destruction of property recorded.
