The Labour Party Security, Peace, and Conflict Resolution Committee (LP-SPCRC) has taken decisive steps to address the ongoing conflicts within the party.

In this regard, the committee has scheduled a crucial stakeholders’ meeting for September 4th in Umuahia. The meeting aims to discuss and resolve the issues affecting the party’s cohesion and future direction.

This is just as it condemned the Julius Abure-led faction of the party that held the national convention in Nnewi, Anambra State recently, saying that all hands must be on deck to ensure that a resolution that should make the party a national party is put in place.

Addressing a press conference in Abuja on Monday, the chairman of the committee, Dr. Charles Ugomuoh, urged party stakeholders to come together to reach a permanent resolution.

Ugomuoh emphasised that the committee is committed to resolving conflicts within the party and ensuring a speedy restoration of peace and harmonious working relationships among party members and stakeholders.

“In view of the above, the committee aligns itself with the recent position of HE Peter G. Obi, the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 general elections, who, alongside Abia State Governor HE Alex Ottih, advocated for a stakeholders’ meeting to comprehensively address all pending crises within the party.

“Previously, this committee has been at the forefront of efforts to restore peace within the party. It has met and consulted with various aggrieved party members and stakeholders at different locations and forums, including with HE Peter G. Obi, the presidential candidate of our great party, as well as the party’s NWC.

“At this time, it is crucial to recognize that Nigeria’s democracy cannot be sustained with a one-party system. As a result, we must all stand firm to correct the wrongs and advance the progress of this great country.”

He noted that the party’s leadership is also responding positively to the committee’s recommendations and urged everyone to unite and advance the party’s goals.
