Our correspondent gathered that the incident, which has sent shockwaves across the state, occurred at his residence in Olorunda Abba, Lagelu Local Government Area of Oyo State, late Tuesday evening.
The victim was a prominent chieftain of the PDP in Oyo State and founder of the Omituntun Benedict Foundation (OBF), was reportedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen.

Akika, popularly known as “Akika,” is well-regarded for his philanthropic work and unwavering support for Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration.

His foundation, Omituntun Benedict Foundation, was known for its contributions toward poverty alleviation and youth empowerment in the state, making him a key figure within the PDP and a major supporter of grassroots development.

According to sources, the gunmen stormed Akika’s residence in Olorunda Abba in what appeared to be a well-coordinated attack.

Unconfirmed reports indicated that in the course of the abduction, one individual was killed by the assailants.

While the identity of the deceased has not been officially confirmed, residents of the community have expressed shock and fear over the increasing rate of violence and insecurity in the area.

Akika’s kidnapping has raised significant concerns, not only due to his political stature but also because of the rising trend of politically motivated attacks and kidnappings in Nigeria.

As a staunch supporter of Governor Seyi Makinde’s government, Akika had been a significant player in the PDP’s local and state politics. His abduction could have far-reaching implications for the political landscape of Oyo State, especially as the state gears up for future elections and heightened political activities.

A community leader who spoke on behalf of the community, on condition of anonymity, called on security forces to intensify their patrols and ensure that the criminals behind the kidnapping were swiftly brought to justice.

“This act of terror has left our community in fear. We appeal to the government and the police to bring Chief Akika back safely and end this insecurity,” he said.
