The University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) has appointed Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele as its substantive Vice-Chancellor.
Mele’s appointment was announced on Wednesday in a statement by the university’s Governing Council, as signed by the Registrar, Ahmad Lawan, following a rigorous selection process.
The statement noted the appointment takes immediate effect.
Describing the appointment as well-deserved, Lawan, said Professor Mele’s exceptional scholarship and leadership earned him the coveted role.
Professor Mele, a distinguished scholar in English Language and Linguistics, brings more than 20 years of experience in teaching, research, and community service to his new position.
He previously held the roles of Acting Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Central Administration) at the university.
Under his leadership, the university is expected to witness significant improvements in research, innovation, student experience, and community engagement.
Professor Mele who is a native of Mafa local government area of Borno State; he is married with children and is widely travelled alongside his passion for reading, mentoring young professionals and charity work.
