Group Supports Struggling Students In Abuja

The non-governmental organisation, Sisters of Jannah (SOJ), Abuja Zone, has supported students of Government Junior Secondary School, Karshi, Abuja by paying their school fees and providing educational materials.

Speaking with journalists on the sidelines of the donations at the school premises yesterday, the Abuja coordinator of SOJ, Hajiya Solanke FelilatF., explained that the organisation’s goal is to help children whose parents are struggling to pay school fees.

Acknowledging the economic hardships facing many Nigerian families, Felilat elaborated on the motivation behind the initiative.

“We understand the difficulties parents are facing right now. That’s why we decided to identify schools where parents are seriously struggling with fees and offer our support.

“It’s part of our mission to reach out to women, orphans, and children in need,” she said.

SOJ paid the fees for several students identified by the school and also distributed educational materials donated by members and generous Nigerians.

“Items such as lunch bags, school boxes, warmers, flasks, and school shoes were given to the students.

Felilat explained that the choice of Karshi was deliberate, as schools located farther from Abuja city tend to face more significant challenges.

“This isn’t the first school we’ve visited, and it’s part of our ongoing projects.

“We know the government is trying, but we also believe it’s important to support their efforts by helping to get children back into school and providing what they need,” she added.

Mrs. Margaret Ogbonna, the principal of JSS Karshi, expressed her gratitude for the donation.

“We are very happy. Some of these children pay their own school fees, and others miss classes because they have to work to raise money. The assistance provided today will go a long way in helping them stay in school and focus on their studies,” she said.
