The Movement for the Survival of Ogoni People in the United States of America (MOSOP-USA), has declared that it is pushing for the creation of Bori State, out of the present Rivers State, in order to have an autonomous state for the people of Ogoni ethnic nationality.

The Ogoni ethnic nationality, which is in the Rivers South-East senatorial district, consists of Eleme, Khana, Gokana and Tai as well as Oyigbo local government areas of Rivers State.

MOSOP-USA, in a statement made available to LEADERSHIP Weekend in Port Harcourt yesterday, said it has already submitted a memorandum to that effect to the Senate Committee on Constitution Review.

The statement, which was signed by the president of the group, Augustine Kpuinem, said in view of the economic viability of Ogoniland, the people of Ogoni deserve an autonomous state and should be constituted into a state to be called as Bori State with Bori as its capital.

It argued that the Ogoni people are economically viable, resourceful and an independent ethnic entity that can sustain themselves if granted a political autonomous state in the country.
