The Kwara State local government election is holding across the State of Saturday as the State Independent Electoral Commission (KWASIEC) has already deployed officials and election materials to all the 16 local government areas.
KWASIEC chairman, Mohammed Baba-Okanla, confirmed this during an interview with LEADERSHIP in Ilorin, the State capital this Saturday morning.
The clarification followed a rumour milling the rounds since Friday night that the election had been postponed due to a purported court injunction.
“We don’t have time for their mischief. My officers are already on the field, and relevant materials have since been dispatched. All local government areas have received their materials, including areas as far as Baruten, Patigi, Edu, and Ifelodun. We are set for the election today,” Baba-Okanla told LEADERSHIP.
He dismissed a viral message purportedly postponing the election as the handiwork of “jobless mischief makers”.
“I didn’t sign any such thing. Neither did anyone of my officers. We are ready and we are on the field already,” KWASIEC chairman stated.
