Unique Ladies Association, comprising wives of officers of the Nigerian Defence Academy’s (NDA) 38 Regular Course, has commissioned a solar-powered inverter system at the NDA hospital’s maternity ward in Kaduna.
The donation, marking the 38th anniversary of their husbands’ graduation, underscored the association’s gratitude to the institution that they testified shaped their lives 38 years ago.
Speaking at the project commissioning ceremony in Kaduna yesterday, the chairperson of the association, Hauwa-Kulu Pani, said the NDA has a special place in their hearts, hence the need to contribute to improve its standard.
She said the association recognised the need to tackle the intermittent power supply which poses significant risks to the maternity ward, especially during child birth as the facility would enhance patients’ care and safety.
Pani said, “This initiative is not only a tribute to the 38th anniversary of our beloved spouses but also a testament to the enduring spirit of community and support that defines our association.
“As we reflect on the journey of the past 38 years, it is clear that our strength lies in the bonds we share and the collective commitment to making a difference in the lives of others.
“This project symbolises more than just a donation; it represents our unwavering dedication to improving the quality of healthcare and ensuring a brighter future for those in need.
“The maternity ward of the NDA Hospital holds a special place in our hearts. It is a place where new beginnings are celebrated, where hope and resilience come together, and where countless families find comfort and care. By providing a reliable and sustainable source of power, we are contributing to a safer and more efficient environment for both the patients and the dedicated staffs who work tirelessly to ensure the wellbeing of all mothers and their newborns.
Acting Commandant of the NDA hospital, Col. Olayinka Ojo, appreciated the gesture, saying the facility would provide relief.
He said the gesture came at the right time and fit into the vision of the Kaduna NDA Commandant, Maj. Gen. John Ochai who is very passionate about the health of all, adding that Ochai within a short period had dramatically improved the health system in the academy.
