Public and private sector stakeholders have again agreed on the need for Nigeria to churn out pro-business policies to create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive and create jobs and wealth as a remedy to the current scarce investment condition in the country.

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike; chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service, Zacc Adedeji; national president of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Dele Kelvin Oye and president of the Abuja Chamber Of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), Emeka Obegolu are among those who made the call yesterday at the opening ceremony of the 19th Abuja International Trade Fair themed: ‘Mobility: Options for Transportation, Trade Finance and Taxation’ in Abuja.

Mr Wike said the FCT administration is determined to make Abuja the best destination for local and foreign investors, which aligns with the aspiration to contribute to the economy’s growth. He also said his administration will provide the infrastructure needed for businesses to thrive.

FIRS chairman Zacch Adedeji, represented by the director of taxpayer services, Dr Lovette Ononuga, praised the ACCI for its ongoing efforts in promoting trade and collaboration among entrepreneurs while assuring the business community of a tax-friendly regime.

“We believe collaboration is critical to advancing tax advocacy and promoting voluntary compliance. So, our partnership with institutions such as the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry is crucial to raising awareness about the benefits of tax compliance in an economy.

“Working together, we help create a culture of compliance that not only strengthen the tax system but also contribute to the overall stability and predictability of the business environment,” Ononuga said.

Regarding the event’s theme, Dr Obegolu said mobility solutions were vital to fostering economic growth and influencing trade, finance, and taxation.

“Efficient transportation options help businesses overcome logistical challenges, streamline supply chains, and reduce operational costs, all essential for economic growth.

“The fair aims to provide a platform for knowledge-sharing, collaboration, and networking, bringing together industry leaders, government officials, innovators, and entrepreneurs to forge new trade and investment relationships.

“It also presents opportunities to explore new markets, establish valuable partnerships, and gain insights into the latest trends and advancements.”

The ACCI boss stated that AITF has established itself as a premier multi-sectoral event in Nigeria, offering domestic and international exhibitors the opportunity to showcase new products and gain insights into evolving industry trends.

The national president of NACCIMA reiterated the importance of mobility to national development. “The significance of efficient transportation networks, accessible trade finance solutions, and fair taxation policies cannot be overstated as we seek to position Nigeria as a regional and global commerce leader,” he said. Oye praised the partnership and underscored the necessity for effective policies that foster a conducive business environment.

The 12-day fair features over 500 exhibitors showcasing over 10,000 products and services. It serves as a trade hub and a venue for knowledge-sharing and networking among industry leaders and policymakers.
