The Kano State House of Assembly has passed the 2024 Supplementary Budget into law. The additional budget is to fund the new minimum wage for its workforce as well as implement some projects across the 44 local government areas of the State.

The passage was sequel to the adoption of a report by the House joint committee on appropriation and local governments and chieftaincy affairs during Tuesday’s plenary presided over by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Isma’il Falgore.

Speaking to Journalists shortly after plenary, the Chairman, House Committee on Appropriation, Alhaji Sa’adu Ungoggo, noted that the supplementary bill will be used to fund new minimum wage and projects across the 44 LGAs, among others.

He noted that the committee carefully scrutinised the 2024 supplementary budget and made some changes to align with the needs and yearnings of the citizens.

In a related development, the House also passed the Kano State Public Health Security Amendment Bill 2024.

Raising the motion, the Majority Leader, Alhaji Lawan Hussaini, explained that the Kano State Public Health Security Amendment Bill was passed in February 2024 without the 3rd reading as required by the law, which necessitated its recall for the third reading.

He added that passage of the bill will pave the way for regulation and implementation of the Kano State public health security that serves as a robust framework for public health surveillance, emergency management, and the protection of health care workers during crises.

After the third reading by the Deputy Clerk, Alhaji Nasiru Magashi, the House unanimously passed the Kano State Public Health Security Amendment Bill 2024.
