Former Super Eagles midfielder, Oghenekaro Peter Etebo, has opened up on his decision to join Turkish second division club, Genclerbirligi.

Etebo, 28, made a surprise move to the Red and Black this summer.

The combative midfielder rejected offers from Israel and first division clubs in Turkey to pitch tent with the modest side.

The former Warri Wolves player was sidelined for close to one year with injury.

Etebo trained at Genclerbirligi’s facilities, while recovering from the injury.

The player revealed that the club offered him access to their training facilities without any obligation on his part.

He said the generosity, coupled with the relationship built with the coaching staff, influenced his decision to join the club.

“A lot of people were calling me, asking, ‘Why would you go to a second division club in Turkey?” Etebo said in an interview with SportsBoom.com.

“From January till the end of the season, I didn’t pay for anything, and I trained with the group — 100 per cent.

“The coach told me: ‘Etebo, I’d tell you something, even before you sign for any team, or before you go anywhere. Just remember that these guys are the ones that looked after you. So, it’s very important.”
