IBB Varsity Partners UNICEF On Climate Change

Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, IBBU Lapai Niger State, is partnering with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) on climate change as the university flagged off tree planting aimed at combating the effects of climate change.

The state commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Yakubu Mohammed Kolo, who performed the flag-off yesterday, reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to supporting green initiatives to combat climate change in the university.

Represented by the director of Forestry and Wildlife, Dr Musa Labaran, the commissioner lauded the management of the university for its collaboration with UNICEF on the tree-planting project designed to enhance climate resilience.

He explained that the partnership aligns perfectly with the vision of Governor Umar Mohammed Bago, who launched the Green Economy Summit some months ago, adding that the summit highlighted the urgent need to focus on sustainable practices and environmental conservation across Niger State.

He pointed out that Governor Bago’s agenda drives environmental sustainability and economic growth through green initiatives, adding that the Ministry of Environment will ensure that all necessary support is provided to IBBU to make the project successful.

Yakubu Kolo further stated that the Niger State government was committed to ensuring that such initiatives contribute significantly to mitigating the effects of climate change in the state.

Earlier, the vice-chancellor, Professor Abu Kasim Adamu, commended UNICEF for its continued partnership, emphasising the agency’s commitment to supporting climate action on tree planting in the university.

The vice-chancellor highlighted UNICEF’s admiration for the university’s eco-friendly environment, further inspiring the partnership to create a sustainable green campus.
