Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State has disclosed that his successor must be a grassroots politician willing to embrace the masses and sacrifice for the good of the state.

The governor stated this when he received 226 ward chairmen and local and state executive members of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, on a solidarity visit at the Government House, Yola, yesterday.

Fintiri saluted the party’s leadership in the state under the stewardship of Barrister Tahir Shehu. Governor Fintiri also commended the foresight of the party ward executives for keeping the party solid at the grassroots level.

He called for quarterly meetings by the executives to strengthen the party, adding that the government is working to surpass what it has been doing, a trajectory he promised to stick to till the people are satisfied and the state is better off.

He expressed dissatisfaction with the conduct of the Edo gubernatorial race describing the outcome as a broad-day robbery and a rape of democracy, considering how the opposition became mischievous and used social media to divert the attention of Nigerians.

The governor pledged to remain a committed member of the PDP, urging the party men and women not to be deterred but to continue collaborating as it works to salvage the country through the PDP.

The PDP, he said, is full of capacity, energy, and wherewithal to march the opposition, reiterating that as long as they hold the ground, the party will bounce back to take over the country in 2027.

Earlier, state PDP chairman Barrister Abubakar Tahir Shehu, who lauded the governor for receiving numerous national awards even from the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, led federal government, said the party in the state is keenly following his activities and is proud of him.

He congratulated Governor Fintiri for doing wonderfully well at the national party assignment in Edo, urging him to keep up the good work.

Barrister Shehu also commended the governor for giving his best to the state, hoping his successor would build on his legacy, reaffirming their loyalty and support for him to succeed.
