Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike has expressed his commitment to the urgent rehabilitation of key roadways linking Nyanya, Karu, and Orozo, citing the road’s poor condition as a significant concern.

Wike made this known yesterday in Abuja during an inspection of the Apo-Karshi Road project.
While reflecting on his previous visit to the Karshi-Apo Road, the minister recalled, “When we last visited, I noticed how bad the road was and said, ‘No! This is not acceptable.’ We promptly wrote to Mr. President, and he approved immediate rehabilitation.”

This 18-kilometre Nyanya, Karu, and Orozo Road improvement will include the installation of streetlights, with the contractor promising completion within eight months.

He emphasised the importance of the road and said that numerous government agencies are located along its route.

“Once this road is rehabilitated, it will enhance the Karshi-Apo Road as well, facilitating improved access for all,” he stated.

While speaking on the Apo-Karshi Road, he explained that the previous delays in contractor mobilisation were due to procurement processes but expressed relief that these issues have now been resolved.

“I still harbour some doubts about their timelines, but they maintain they will finish by April. This project is very dear to us, and many are eager to see it completed,” he added.

He assured stakeholders that funds were available for the project, reinforcing his commitment to holding contractors accountable.

“If I return and observe significant progress, I will instruct the treasury department to release further funds. For now, we will closely monitor their efforts,” Wike affirmed.

The minister, while addressing concerns about potentially cancelling the project, highlighted the complexities of such a decision.

“Many do not understand the financial and legal implications of cancelling projects, so we prefer to support the contractor in completing the work on time,” he explained.

Wike reiterated his dedication to overseeing the project to ensure timely completion, promising to return regularly to monitor its progress. “We are serious about this project and committed to its success,” he concluded.
