Jigawa Prepares For LG Poll With 14,794 Ad-hoc Staff

Jigawa State Independent Electoral Commission (JISEC ) has recruited over 14,794 adhoc staff for the conduct of the October 5, local government election in the state.

The executive chairman of the commission, Alhaji Auwalu Harbo, revealed this while briefing newsmen on their preparations for the exercise.

He said, a training has already been given to the recruited adhoc staff in various categories to ensure hitch-free exercise.

The chairman noted that the election will be conducted at 4,522 polling units in the 287 political wards across the state’s 27 local government areas.

“As we have less than two weeks to go for the election, the commission has already reached 95 percent in terms of preparation, beside the recruitment of ad-hoc staffs, we have received the delivery of sensitive and non-sensitive materials.

“We have received the voters register from the INEC and all required materials, we are also working closely with security agencies, media and political parties to ensure peaceful conduct of the election,” he said.

In the forthcoming election, he revealed that 11 political parties would contest for the 27 local government chairmanship seats and 287 councillorship positions.
