Delta State government has supported the family of a teacher, the late Mr Sunday Ufah, flogged to death by an angry parent, with N2.5 million.

This is coming almost a year after the late Ufah, a Physics teacher at Alihame Mixed Secondary School, Alihame, Ika south local government area of Delta State, tragically lost his life in the line of duty.

Recall that Ufah allegedly met his untimely death when a parent identified as Mr Nweke on October 18, 2023, rushed to the school to fight him after he reportedly punished his (Mr Nweke’s) child and other students for allegedly scaling the school fence to steal palm wine at a shop outside the school promises.

The incident which attracted heavy criticism at that time moved the state government to make several promises, including assuring the family of the deceased of justice.

The state government also gave scholarships to the four children of the deceased.

Presenting the cheque to the wife of the deceased, Mrs Christiana Ufah, the state commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs Rose Ezewu said that the gesture was to show government’s support to the family and described the incident that led to the death of the teacher as quite unfortunate.

Earlier, the permanent secretary, Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, Mr Augustine Oghoro stated that in October last year, the state and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education in particular recorded the tragic incident.

Oghoro said that shortly after the death of the teacher, the state governor, Hon Sheriff Oborevwori directed the ministry to immediately pay a condolence visit to the family of the deceased teacher.
