PICTORIAL: Troops Kill 8 Terrorists, Rescue 40 Hostages In 4 States

Troops of the Nigerian Army have eliminated eight terrorists and rescued 40 abducted persons in a series of multiple operations in Nasarawa, Borno, Kaduna and Yobe States.

A statement posted by the Nigerian Army on its official social media handle also said the troops apprehended a notorious arms courier found with a large cache of ammunition.

The statement said troops on Saturday, September 28, 2024, in Nasarawa State, acting on credible intelligence, conducted a strategic stop-and-search operation along the Lafia-Keffi Road. The search resulted in the arrest of a firearms courier and the recovery of 303 live rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition concealed in a bag.

The statement said further investigations were ongoing to apprehend couerier’s accomplices.

In another operation, troops in Kaduna State executed precision strikes in the forests near Danmari and Saulawa villages in Birnin Gwari local government area of the state, and killed one terrorist.

Troops also engaged terrorists in Ankwa village of Kachia local government area of the state and killed two terrorists and recovered a locally made firearm, 11 rounds of 7.62mm (special) ammunition, and a motorcycle used by the terrorists.

Meanwhile, in Borno State, troops in an encounter with fleeing terrorists at Faayijiwa Fandanari village in Magumeri local government area of the state recovered two AK-47 rifles, 61 rounds of 7.62mm (NATO), 51 rounds of 7.62mm (special ) ammunition, hard drugs and various supplies.

According to the statement, the terrorists abandoned the firearms and ammunition after succumbing to the troops’ superior firepower.

Further operations in Gwoza local government area of the state, acting on credible intelligence, killed three terrorists near Ashigashiya village, and intercepted a convoy suspected of transporting logistics to terrorists at Gubio.

The troops seized three vehicles loaded with food supplies intended for terrorist camps and the sum of N2,400.

Similarly, troops in Kukawa local government area of the state, acting on credible intelligence, intercepted terrorists attempting to relocate abducted victims from Cijin village.

The terrorists on sighting the troops fled abandoning 38 hostages, comprising six men, eight women, and 24 children, who were safely rescued by the troops.

Also, in Yobe State, troops responding to reports of terrorists extorting civilians, staged a successful ambush in Sasawa village in Damaturu local government area of the state, where they killed one terrorist and recovered one AK-47 rifle along with a motorcycle.
