The Nigerian Youths Organisation (NYO), along with other youth organisations, has urged youths in the country to shun the proposed hardship protest scheduled for October 1, 2024, and embrace peaceful, constructive dialogue with the federal government.

National president of the organisation, Duke Alamboye, speaking at a media briefing in Abuja weekend, emphasised that October 1 is a day of national significance, adding that it is a time for reflection and unity and not division.

He appealed to all Nigerian youths to give the current administration more time to execute its people-oriented reforms.

While acknowledging that the temporary economic hardship being faced is challenging the method of engagement must be progressive and devoid of violence.

Alamboye encouraged religious organisations, civil society groups and individuals to propose practical solutions and engage in meaningful dialogue.

“We must reflect on the unfortunate events of the last protest. What began as a legitimate demonstration of frustration was unfortunately hijacked by hoodlums in certain parts of the country, leading to pockets of violence. In light of this, we are advocating for dialogue as the right tool to address our concerns and avoid a repeat of the chaos”, he said.

Alamboye called on all Nigerian youths to channel their energy towards purposeful conversations that yield tangible results.
