An Islamic leader and national secretary of Nigeria Inter-religious Council, Alhaji Nasir Uhor, has called on the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Chief Nyesom Wike and Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, to toe the path of peace on the ongoing political crisis in the state.

Uhor, also the vice president-general of the Rivers State Islamic Council, made the call yesterday while speaking with LEADERSHIP in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital.

He stated that although religious leaders in the state had not been told about the main cause of the face-off between Wike and Fubara, they observed that it was swelled by greed and personal interest.

The Islamic leader said: “On the issue of what is happening in Rivers State, we have made our contributions from time to time. We are studying the situation; we are not happy about the situation in the state.

“We have repeatedly stated clearly that the current political crisis in the state is totally uncalled for. There is no anchor, taproot, or reason for it whatsoever; none, other than it is being swelled by personal interest, greed and a kind of pathological disdain for equity and justice.

“This is the way we have seen it because we have asked the question several times. What exactly is the kernel of this problem? But nobody has been able to give us an answer.

Well, it is clear that the issues are centred around the former governor and now FCT minister and the current governor. These are the epicentres of this crisis. If you remove them from the scene, there will be no crisis. All other persons making noise here and there take their cue from the FCT minister.”
