As Nigeria marks its 64th Independence Anniversary, the National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on citizens to keep hope alive and work toward realising our founding fathers’ vision when they sought freedom for the country.

In his Independence Anniversary message issued yesterday in Abuja, the director-general of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, commended Nigerians for their patience and perseverance in facing challenges.

He noted that the tough economic policies implemented by the government are necessary to achieve the promising and glorious future that our leaders fought for.

Issa-Onilu emphasised that building Nigeria is an ongoing and inclusive effort that requires contributions from all citizens, regardless of their social, economic, or political backgrounds.

He urged citizens to reflect on the efforts of our founding fathers and draw inspiration from our national heroes in the pursuit of building a great nation that we can all be proud of, insisting that better days lie ahead.

“At 64, Nigeria is still a work in progress. Everyone should be part of it. The dream of our founding fathers was for us to be free and truly independent. We need to make Nigeria genuinely independent, not just politically but also socially and economically,” he said.

Issa-Onilu highlighted the need for all citizens to come together, irrespective of their tribal, religious, cultural, and political affiliations, and use their differences and diversity as strengths for the growth and development of the country.

While urging citizens to observe this year’s Independence Anniversary in line with its theme, “Reflecting on the Past, Inspiring the Future,” he called for continued prayers for the nation to overcome its challenges and enter a new era of glory and economic freedom.
