Experts Charge Leaders On Innovation For Positive Economic Change

Experts, who converged at the 40th Omolayole Lecture Series at the prestigious Metropolitan Club in Lagos, charged political and business leaders on innovation for positive economic change in the country.

In her keynote address at the event, a renowned expert, Dr. Mrs. Mosun Belo-Olusoga, while discussing the theme of the conference ‘Developing a Game-Changing Leader’s Mindset for Business Transformation in a VUCA World,’ shared valuable insights on the necessity for leaders to adapt to the volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) environment that characterises today’s business landscape. To her, ‘A transformative leader must embrace change and lead with resilience, for it is through adaptability that we drive innovation and success.’

On his part, the president/chairman of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management of Nigeria (CIPM), Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir expressed his deep pride in marking this extraordinary milestone, saying: “Today, I am deeply humbled and take pride in the privilege that we have received as the apex regulatory HR body empowered by legislation to mark the extraordinary milestone of the 40th Omolayole Management Lecture Series occasion.”

Mallam Gobir remarked that, “This platform has shaped the careers of many professionals, influenced policy and set the agenda for the next generation of leaders by igniting debates, fostering collaboration and inspiring actionable change in industries that form the backbone of Nigeria’s economy.”

He acknowledged the legacy of Dr. Michael Omolayole, highlighting the significant impact this lecture series has had over the past four decades in shaping management practices across Nigeria.

He further encouraged attendees to take full advantage of the wealth of knowledge shared at the lecture, referencing a quote by Carlos Castaneda: ‘A man of knowledge lives by acting, not by thinking about acting.’ Mallam Gobir implored everyone to ‘Take Action!’

CIPN, therefore extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Planning Committee, partners, and all contributors to the success of this momentous event, underscoring the vital role of collaboration in sustaining the initiative’s success. The lecture series serves as a reminder that in today’s rapidly evolving business environment, collective efforts are essential for achieving greatness.

Meanwhile, its 58th Induction Ceremony for the Lagos State HR/Administrative Cadre, with the theme: ‘The Service, the Civil Servant, and the Profession: Rebuilding Excellence and Public Trust in the Civil Service,’ at  the Lagos State Secretariat welcomed over 178 new inductees through both the executive and HR practitioners’ routes.

The ceremony featured the chairman of the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, Olubunmi Fabamwo, as the distinguished guest speaker.

In her keynote address, Fabamwo emphasised the importance of professionalism in human resource management within the public sector. She stated that, “the path to rebuilding public trust in the civil service lies in our commitment to excellence and integrity. As civil servants, we must embody the values we seek to promote, ensuring that our actions inspire confidence in the systems we serve.”

The president and chairman of CIPM, Mallam Ahmed Ladan Gobir, FCIPM, expressed his pride in the new inductees, stating that, “Today, we welcome a new generation of HR professionals who are equipped to drive the transformation of the public service. Our commitment to professionalising HR in the public sector is vital for fostering a culture of excellence and accountability, essential for rebuilding trust in our institutions.”

This induction ceremony highlights CIPM’s dedication to advancing the professionalisation of human resource management in the public service, aiming to enhance the quality and effectiveness of civil service operations. The initiative underscores the Institute’s ongoing efforts to support the development of HR professionals who can navigate the complexities of today’s public sector environment.

As the CIPM looks to the future, it said, it remains committed to fostering a leadership mindset that not only meets the challenges of today but also prepares for the opportunities of tomorrow.
