Special Adviser to Lagos State Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr Idris Aregbe, has stressed the urgent need for robust public and private sectors to form partnerships that would engender tourism development in the country.

Aregbe, who stated this at the celebration of the nation’s 64th Independence Day celebration at the Giwa Gardens, Sangotedo, said tourism in the state would continue to blossom, adding that residents and visitors would continue to enjoy recreational centres for relaxation.

He said the state government will continue to use Tourism, Arts and Culture as tools for relaxation, fostering peace and conflict resolution for a more united cosmopolitan state.

“It is not just about giving out 1,000 free tickets for fun seekers; it is about families coming out to unwind and bond. It is essential that, as parents, we educate our children about our identity as Nigerians.

“We know there are problems here and there, but we remain thankful. Things will get better as long as we keep believing,” he said.

The special adviser said it was necessary, “One of our problems in this country is that we believe the government alone should do everything, which is impossible.

“Society thrives on partnerships from all sectors; I am sure many of us did not even know this place exists.
“We will continue to give players in the tourism sector our unflinching support, just as my governor said a few days ago. Lagos State is fully committed to harnessing the potential of tourism,” he said.

A fun seeker, Mr Okey Ndubisi, said Giwa Gardens should be replicated. This is commendable; my children enjoy as much fun as I am. I drove from Ilupeju. I wish we had something like this on the mainland. Kudos to the brains behind this,” he said.

Another fun seeker, Miss Opemipo Ajayi, said she was looking forward to another free ticket for fun in December.
