Recall that Nigeria officially joined the United Nations on October 7, 1960, a development the association said was worth celebrating considering the pivotal role the country has played since joining the apex global body especially in the area of peace and conflict resolution.

The chairman, Board of Directors of the association, Amb. Dr. Emmanuel Nkweke, while addressing journalists in the country, said the event will also witness the appointment of Her Excellency Amb Alanyingi Sylva, former First Lady of Bayelsa State, as the Executive Secretary of the Association as well as appointment of other Eminent Nigerians into several offices of the association.

He said the association, which is incorporated in the United States of America, has the sole aim of coordinating the unity of African countries towards realising the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) within the African continent.

He said that considering the short period left towards realising the goals, it was imperative that efforts were geared up towards realising the goals.
