Leading entertainment company, 16: Xisten Events, has rejected the long-held belief that entertainment practitioners can only thrive in Lagos.

Chief executive officer, Smith Oseghale emphasised the importance of diversifying the industry to meet the cultural and entertainment needs of millions of Nigerians residing across various regions.

Speaking to reporters, Oseghale acknowledged the established infrastructure and support that Lagos provides for the entertainment sector. However, he asserted that talent exists beyond the confines of the city and that individuals from other states can equally contribute to the industry’s growth.

“The entertainment industry must embrace diversity to promote excellence and professionalism,” Oseghale stated.

He pointed out that while Lagos has successfully nurtured various segments, including music, films, and comedy, many stars have emerged from other regions, debunking the myth that one must relocate to Lagos to become successful.

With Nigeria’s vast population offering numerous opportunities, Oseghale challenged the notion that Lagos is the only pathway to stardom.

“Our population is one of our biggest strengths. If we can tap into this market effectively, it will become clear that with the right strategies, one can thrive in places like Kano, Kaduna, Maiduguri, and others,” he said.

Oseghale, a graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Zoology from Ambrose Alli University and a Master’s in Environmental Toxicology from the University of Benin, shared his successful experiences in producing a wide range of events in cities like Benin, Abuja, and Warri.

His recent event, Edwardo Untamed, held on October 1st in Benin City, received high praise and also debuted in Abuja earlier this year, with plans for a second edition in the capital set for 2025.

“Our past shows have proven that entertainment can break geographical boundaries,” he added.

Among the notable productions from 16: Xisten Events are Maleke Unchanged, MC Edo Pikin Undiluted, and Just Comedy with Funny P, all of which have enjoyed significant success in the South-South region of Nigeria.

Looking ahead, Oseghale announced that the company is finalizing plans for a major event, King Zina, set to take place in January 2024, alongside other upcoming shows later this year.

As Oseghale asserted, “The entertainment industry is as expansive as the sky, accommodating practitioners from every corner of the nation.” The message is clear: talent knows no borders, and the thriving entertainment scene is one that can flourish anywhere in Nigeria.
