Gunmen believed to be members of the Islamic State of West African Province (ISWAP) attacked Gaidam town in Yobe State early yesterday, killing one person and burning government property, police and the military said.
Sources told our correspondent that the attack occurred at around 3:30 a.m. when the insurgents entered the town and began firing explosives .It was gathered that two vehicles belonging to the Nigerian Customs officials were set ablaze.
The attacked the residence of Dahiru Muhammadu, a 60-year-old night watchman opposite the Gaidam Polytechnic.
He was shot in the neck and rushed to Geidam Specialist Hospital where he was confirmed dead.
Alhaji Nur, a resident, said several residents were missing and the casualty figure could not be confirmed at press time.
