Elder statesman and immediate past secretary-general of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF), Mr Anthony Sani has said that states Account-generals have the right to apply for the position of the Accountant-general of the Federation (AGF).
According to Sani, they have been clamouring for the separation of the office of the Accountant-general of the Federation since states participate in the Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC).
“Those who submit that the office of accountant-general of the federation is an exclusive preserve for the accountants in the employment of the federal public service forget the fact that the Accountant General of the federation apart from management of the funds for the federal government also manages FAAC which includes states.
“That is why there have been clamors for separation of the office of Accountant General of the federation from accountant-general for the federal government, ” Sani said
According to him, “we therefore submit that Accountants General of states are entitled to apply for the position of Accountant General of the Federation and be considered.”
