Unkwown gunmen suspected to members of the proscribed Eastern Security Network (ESN), an armed wing of the equally prescribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), on Wednesday night, murdered three policemen in Enugu State.
The Enugu State Police Command confirmed the killing of the Police operatives, who were in a patrol vehicle at Chime Avenue, New Haven in Enugu when they were attacked.
The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Daniel Ndukwe, said intensive manhunt operation has commenced to fish out the unknown assailants, who operated in a Lexus Jeep.
Ndukwe disclosed that the occupants of the Lexus Jeep suddenly opened fire on the moving Police Patrol Van on duty.
He added that the shooting led to three of the operatives sustaining severe gunshot wounds and were later confirmed dead at the hospital.
He confirmed that the incident happened at about 10:15pm on Wednesday night along Chime Avenue, New Haven in Enugu.
He promised that further developments will be communicated to the media.
