Writers Taofeek Olatunbosun, Hajarah M. Bashar and Yohanna S. Daniel works have been shortlisted for the maiden edition of the TY Buratai Young Adult Literature Prize.
Olatunbosun’s ‘Truth and Dare’, Bashar’s ‘Portraiture Of A Dreamer’, and Daniel’s ‘The Northern Boy’ was selected from a list of six winning works from the six geo-political zones of the country – which include Sima Essien’s ‘Dreamwalker’ (South-South), Michael Igbonekwu’s ‘Mysteries of the Haunted House’ (South-East), Bilqisa Abubakar’s ‘The Last Sacrifice’ (North West), Olatunbosun’s ‘Truth and Dare’ (South West), Bashar’s ‘Portraiture of a Dreamer’ (North Central), and Daniel’s ‘The Northern Boy’ (North East).
All six winners from the six geopolitical zones are to receive a cash prize of N250,000 each, while the shortlisted three will battle it out for the grand prize of N750,000 rounding out the grand prize to N1 million.
Founded by the TY Buratai Literary Initiative (TYBLI), the TY Buratai Young Adult Literature Prize aims to cultivate and nurture literary writings that caters to the culture, language and zeitgeist of Nigerian teen and young adults. In addition, highlight the creative talents of emerging writers.
All regional, and grand prize winners will be announced and awarded at an award ceremony scheduled to hold in late November 2024 in Abuja.
