The ancient town which has been neglected for a long time in social amenities, both by the state and federal government, expressed delight over the newly inaugurated solar power street lights.

The street lights, which were inaugurated by the Rural Electrification Agency on Saturday, were facilitated by one of the prominent sons of the town, Prince Tope Oluwajana.

Appreciating the President Bola Tinubu-led federal government for remembering the community, the regent of the town, High Chief Salotun, Ogunleye Joseph Omoshebi, urged both the federal government and the state government to look towards the town for development.

Omoshebi who appealed to the Ondo State government to address the deficits of social amenities in the town, stated that the roads, which linked the area to others had been cut off for a long time and the government did nothing about it.

The community leader who also stated that aside bad roads, the community also lacked electricity, and other infrastructure, emphasised that the road network challenge had been making it difficult for farmers to transport their produce to the urban centres.

He appealed to the state government to consider repairing the roads to aid the transportation of food items to urban centres.

The Regent said, “While thanking the federal government for giving us the solar street lights, we still need help from the government. Our roads are bad. You can see that yourself.

“As big as this community is, no hospital at all, not to talk of having medical doctors attending to us. If we have any medical challenges or any emergency in Ijare, we will need to rush the person to Akure before we can access any doctor.

“The situation is as bad as that. No university or higher institution in the town and we still need more of these solar street lights because the town has not been covered. We have a bypass road linking the town to Ikere Ekiti and Akure.

“The road is in a deplorable state. From Akure to Ijare is bad. The road from Ijare to Ikere which is a direct road is also bad. We are begging both the federal and state governments to come to our aid.”
