Two years later, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) members in Kano State elected Alhaji Yusuf Ado Kibiya as the new state chairman of the party.

It will be recalled that the party has not had executive members for over two years, due to internal wranglings.

Moreso, Kibiya was a one-time commissioner for Agriculture under Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso between 1999-2003.

The election result was announced yesterday by Halilu Abubakar Mazagani, chairman of the election committee from the party’s national headquarters.

After the election, Kibiya secured a landslide victory, scoring 3,964 votes to defeat his opponent, Nura Nuhu, who scored 244 votes.

Barrister Abdul Fatah Muhammad administered the oath of office to the 39 newly elected state party leaders, including Hon. Kibiya.

The new leadership is expected to steer  PDP’s affairs in Kano, as the party works towards strengthening its presence and strategies ahead of upcoming political activities.

In his acceptance speech, Kibiya thanked party members for their confidence and promised to lead with transparency and inclusiveness, aiming to revitalise the PDP in Kano State.

The publicity secretary state, Professor Umar Faruk Jibril, said the PDP, going by the caliber of executive elected, would continue to wax stronger

“The party here is in need of repositioning and restructuring but this must be in accordance with the rules and guidelines of the party constitution.

“The party in the state does not belong to any rumoured camps being speculated.
