The Nigerian Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (NIEEE) has called for inclusive governance as a critical measure to fully leverage emerging technologies for national development.

Speaking at the 20th International Conference and Exhibition on Power and Telecommunications (ICEPT 2024) in Abuja, NIEEE president, Engr. Felix Oulu, emphasised the pivotal role of engineers as problem solvers in addressing national challenges.

Since its inception in 2005, the conference has focused on national issues, providing innovative solutions across various sectors.

This year’s edition underscored the need to create an enabling environment for professionals—especially engineers—to drive progress in energy, telecommunications, and other key sectors.

“Technologies capable of addressing many of Nigeria’s challenges already exist.

However, without collaboration between governance and professionals, progress will remain slow,” Oulu remarked.

The conference, themed “Issues of Governance and the Emerging Technology Ecosystem in Nigeria,” brought together key stakeholders, including government agencies, to discuss how governance can support the adoption of cutting-edge technologies.
