Ahead of the local government elections slated for Saturday, 19th October, 2024, the Kaduna State Security Council has imposed a restriction of movement throughout the state from 6am to 7pm.
The exercise is scheduled to elect councillors into the 255 wards and chairmen into 23 local government councils in the state.
The directive by the state government said the movement restriction was to ensure peaceful and orderly conduct of the elections.
Overseeing Commissioner, Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Samuel Aruwan in a statement on Friday, said vehicular movement, as well as commercial and other related activities which may constitute impediments to law and order will cease within the restriction period.
The statement added that only persons performing essential duties were exempted from the restriction, and may move during the period with proper identification and clearance.
Aruwan however, advised residents to refrain from actions that could disrupt public peace or affect smooth conduct of the elections, “Security agencies have been deployed to ensure enforcement and compliance.
“Members of the general public are also urged to promptly report any observed acts which threaten law and order to security agencies, and not take laws into their hands,” Aruwan said.
He added that the Kaduna State Security Operations Room could be reached for this purpose through 09034000060 and 08170189999.
